Mychel Russell-Ward
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Prospect Heights

ARTIST STATEMENT: I make art because it’s the way I process the world around me. I draw in pencil and charcoal, and I make watercolors. For 10 years I’ve been making watercolors, but I’ve been drawing all my life. Recently I’ve studied at the Art Students League in New York, where I’ve focused on the human figure. Like many traditional artists before me, I am also an art jeweler. I studied under Cecelia Bauer in New York City. My art jewelry has appeared at the Florida Craftsmen Gallery, the Heidi Lowe Gallery, the 2010 Emmy Awards Style Lounge, and other places. My paintings and drawings have shown at the New York Public library, Mulberry Street branch. Whether I make my art with metal or paper, one thing remains the same. I interpret the world as I see it and reduce what I see and feel to a tangible form.
