ARTIST STATEMENT: Artist and Professor I was born in Houston, Texas. I graduated from the University of Houston in 2006 and completed my Master of Arts in Studio Art Sculpture in 2009 from the University of Texas at San Antonio. In 2013 I accepted a position as Assistant Professor at the Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York City. SOFT SCULPTURES I find that the objects I create are connected to the complex interrelations I observe in the world. My source of inspiration begins with forms occurring in nature. With the use of fabrics, I explore many textures and colors. My works produce a mixture of organic shapes and industrial apparatuses that are aesthetically pleasing and dangerously inviting. Suspension, the tear strength of fibers, their elasticity, and the manipulation of fibers within my work cultivate an interesting dialogue. RESIN SCULPTURES are a series of sculptures that use fiberglass and resin to explore shape, light, and movement. Each piece represents a frozen moment in time. Some works include the added medium of fabric to contrast the hardness of the fiberglass/resin. These works, like others on this site, reference nature, including landscapes.
