ARTIST STATEMENT: Art is my key to understanding the current underlying my identity and the world. In doing so, I derive much of my inspiration from my own life experiences as they are the most authentically felt. I was born in the US and moved to Iran with my family at the age of four in 1979. Growing up with the revolution and the proceeding war and the emigrations which gradually displaced my entire family has compelled me to decode the ways in which these events have marked me. I began doing this by utilizing poetry, craft, and the body in my practice. Material investigation is pivotal to my practice through which I examine a landscape of longing. I work in different mediums and my process involves deconstructing and reconstructing an image, referencing memory, and visualizing language.
