Jesse Chun
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Carroll Gardens

ARTIST STATEMENT: My work is an investigation of the codes and constructs of place, transit, and home. I engage with found sources, and the elements of language, meaning, and context to reinterpret the pre-existing notions of dwelling and belonging.

Subtitles is a conceptual poem that employs the trope of a film narrative. In an on-going investigation of the domestic, consumer aspirations of home, an editing criteria (devoid of promotion and mention of commercial products) is used to decode the found language in various interior design magazines. The selected sentences and colors become new conversations about memory, space, displacement and desire.
