ARTIST STATEMENT: My video and installation work focuses on performance and the conscious. Each piece explores notions of self-identity within the context of the soul or psyche. In my performance, I reinterpret the conscious by mimicking its movements in time and space. My presence is sometimes distorted, sometimes distinct, and almost always fragmented. I perform to not only define a mental space, but to also establish an energy that is innate to every individual conscious.

Kerry, Imprecion, Sam is a video installation that centers on projected, recorded performances. It explores the multiplicity of self-identity within the conscious as it is determined by human interaction and relationships. I appear in the videos as three characters, each of the characters a reflection of myself. Each video segment focuses on my own relationships with one of three people: my friend, mother, and partner. Each character simulates gestures from memories I have of them and gestures symbolic of them. I perform to not only define a mental space, but to also embody the ephemeral energy in those gestures. I believe at the core of my project is content that can be received either as an installation or a single-channel video. The form of a single-channel changes the experience, however the work is still an avenue of perception and represents the multiplicity of self-identity and the collective conscious.
