Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Bushwick

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I create anime-inspired prints and sculptures under the TORNADi brand name to counter chaos and its echoes. A lifetime introduces an array of chaotic stress. My art is a subtle invitation to leave that negative situation, play for at least 5 minutes and regain balance. TORNADi art act as ambassadors with 3 key traits:

1. Attractive colors - The colors I use are sharp to cut through the media glut.
2. Oddly familiar shapes - As in a dream the shapes are exaggerated, layered and mixed. We're most relaxed when we're about to enter or about to leave the dream state.
3. Movement - I give the audience a chance to play inside the print with me. I start the game by creating the art. The audience joins in when they find an interest. The value is solely dependent on each person's emotional and mental satisfaction.

At the start of the creative process, I meditate on an emotion I wish to convey. Midway through I add new concepts to go deeper into my artistic well and find offbeat solutions. The result is art that goes beyond my expectations. In the middle of my creative "panic," the work of art calls forth its true form.

These pillars are my bedrock:
1. I burn inspirations into my mind to help carry projects through to the end. Mistakes are happy accidents that make pieces better.
2. I imagine myself as a tiny visitor walking around, crossing under and even flying over my art.
3. No matter the outcome, my art must challenge boundaries yet remain beautiful enough to be worth your time.
