Erica Cassill
Brooklyn, NY

Genre:Abstract;

ARTIST STATEMENT: Where Death Has No Dominion is the artist's contemplatation on the transcendence of love after death of our physical form. The images are improvisational and reveal themselves upon the leaves of Braille poetry. Tactile language form the bones of the work; the prose a secret soul. Shrouded in ink, watercolor, graphite and gold, the textural framework orchestrates a lost narrative as the medium surrenders to breaks in line and rhythm. Delicate raised dots emerge between abstract layers, suggesting vulnerability and transformation.

Without seeking answer, Cassill summons both Eros and Thanatos, balancing light and the shapeless darkness, wrestling with its forms and meanings, while embracing the unknown.
