ARTIST STATEMENT: Psyche veils and unveils layers of potent meanings, flashes of light that come and go behind the curtain of physical, constructed space called reality. My work uses reproductions of surfaces found in the manmade environment, working with them in collage-based abstractions. Through painting, collage, and sculpture, I seek to playfully question one’s reality-perception process.
I utilize gestural quickness, bringing together various pre-made elements based on their color, shape, and textural relationships. I make molds of found surfaces, using them to cast acrylic paint, which I peel and ultimately collage as paintings. I call the series “Dissociation”, referencing a psychological process of disconnecting from one’s perception of self in reality.
