James Frederic Rose
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Sunset Park

ARTIST STATEMENT: I paint the immediate world around me, which is mostly Brooklyn. I travel throughout the city and see its development and can see critical issues affecting our people. These reflect the issues of the world.

I am making these portraits to identify who is responsible for the social and financial crimes excused by Free Market or Neoliberal Capitalism. Since the 1980s, Free Market has been purposely conflated with Freedom. They are not the same by any means. Some of these politicians truly believed they were doing the right thing and others were acting on greed or corruption. The body of work will include presidents, lobbyists, fossil fuel executives and Wall Street bankers.
