ARTIST STATEMENT: I attended Pratt Institute and graduated with a degree in Painting. My work after school became sculptures carved from wood and inspired by Hopi Kachina dolls, West African sculptures, and Constantin Brancusi. They were small and positioned on tables or pedestals with kinetic movements initiated by the viewer. Later works became free standing and larger, inspired by the religious wood-carved figures in the churches and museums I’ve visited in Mexico, South America and in the United States.
