James M Emerson
Brooklyn , NY
Neighborhood: Bay Ridge

ARTIST STATEMENT: I believe that Love and Goodness are all around, and that the function of an artist is to promote and cultivate those qualities within humankind. I believe that art should be created for art's sake, for beauty's sake, and for the sake of human betterment and intellectual improvement. Through my work, I simplify and reexamine basic human relationships with their surroundings; the relationships between money, politics, and enduring cultural practices constitute the majority of my artwork's subject matter. Through unembellished sculpture and bold, colorful imagery, I try to convey the simplicity that we often miss or ignore as human beings. Above all, my focus is on making beautiful pieces—visually powerful and harmonious to the senses—that can play their part in moving us forward on the path of human progress.
