Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Park Slope

ARTIST STATEMENT: My recent body of photographic work marks a return to making what I call still life constructions, an episodic method in my practice. For each of these images, I began with a bricolage of painted backdrops, everyday materials and a detailed drawing on shrink film; I lit the assemblage and took a photograph. I like working in this way, using light as my primary medium, and the resulting photograph preserves the construct and fixes how the whole is to be seen.

At the heart of each image is a relationship between disparate forms. While themes vary my objective is to create poetic statements that observersí may assign significance based on the own identities and experiences. Some of my pieces, particularly those with a season in their titles, began with a preconception, admittedly sometimes redirected; the Kitchen Floor images, on the hand, were motivated by a desire to be open to chance and spontaneity and work without premeditation.

The process of making these images-using found objects and creating formal associations and juxtapositions in content, is meditative and intuitive, and becomes a way for me to explore ideas just on the verge of articulation.
