ARTIST STATEMENT: I Am Happy is a series of work originated from within me that is projecting outward. It all started from the literal stack of diaries I've filled up over time. I removed the inside, leaving the cubic exterior intact. On the cube surface, I wrote a phrase which reads 'I am happy' in Korean because what I found from my diary is a person who constantly searches to be happy.
I started with one small cube which represents me, but later, I made another cube which represents the other person. I multiplied those cubes which means I made a society consisting of glass cubes. The small glass cube was expanded to a glass room in a museum that a person can physically walk into. Later, I took the glass cube and traveled to the outside of museum and even outside where I was from. Carrying it throughout all of journey from Seoul to Beijing and to New York, the cube and my diary have kept me going.
