Sarah E Brook
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Gowanus

ARTIST STATEMENT: I was raised in the Nevada high-desert, and grew up in intimacy with the vastness of that distinctive landscape. My work is an exploration of the internal state of being generated by the particular characteristics of such an environment. Through my practice, I explore the impact of the psychological and aesthetic languages of uninhabited, naked landscape on the development of identity--specifically in contrast to the social layering of this digital age. I use materials that mimic the processes of this landscape and manipulate them minimally, allowing their intrinsic properties to drive the creative process.
