ARTIST STATEMENT: As an artist, I’m interested in ideas of wholeness. I find meaning in our obsession with capturing and defining the natural world, and beauty in the grotesque by-products of this curiosity.
The investigation of nature and ourselves is forever-linked to the technologies that bring these things to life. My recent work explores how microscopic access has transformed the way we perceive and imagine, and how the“self” is destroyed and re-invented with every technological advance. I’m invested in this feeling - a deconstructive-reproduction, and the body as a glorified ruin. I explore this through the practice of painting, installation, and collage.
Collage is an agile tool for this investigation: It is obsessive, precise, immediate and urgent. It allows me to claim and subvert existing structures - to breakdown, distort, and relocate the body, nature, and myself within a rapidly expanding image world. It is through this work that I explore the wonder, anxiety, and continued vulnerability that come from making our invisible worlds visible.
