Neighborhood: Crown Heights

ARTIST STATEMENT: My work aims to use sight, naming, and recognition to destabilize itself. The sculptures and drawings investigate the act of reading: reading an identity, a body, or a text, and translating between these modes to reveal the erasures involved in legibility. As a transperson, ones physical body and others' address upon it often resists claims to legible subject-hood. These sculptures work to exploit loopholes and substitutions in language, material, and form to complicate and expand possibilities of recognition.
