Efrat Baler
Brooklyn, NY

ARTIST STATEMENT: I call my paintings Virtual Augmented Art. In them I incorporate 3-dimensional objects on the canvas or beneath it and I sculpt canvas on and beyond the frame of the painting. I create hypothetical painterly animations, dynamic and evolutionary scenarios of the work of art itself. I’m interested in exposing how the work of art originated both thematically and painterly, how it came to be and what it can become if it could leave the 2 dimensional surface or when it melds with the 3 dimensional. In my work I part from the traditional and iconic flat wall painting to create an augmented work of art with an evolving painterly dialogue that examines the relationships between representation, perception and reality.
