ARTIST STATEMENT: Sina Basila’s photos, videos and interactive projects asks viewers to explore their relationships with the environment, community, and justice. She also uses discarded materials to create wearable designs that upend conventional ideas of fashion, trash, and mainstream representation. After six year of combining art and pedagogy in Berlin, Sina Basila moved to Brooklyn where she has recently documented Race and Revolution, presented at Pratt Institute, and continues to work with Young New Yorkers. A selection from her photo series Refashioned Garbage were shown at The Society for Domestic Museology in Manhattan.
