Lawrence Ciarallo
Hoboken, NJ
Neighborhood: Downtown Brooklyn

ARTIST STATEMENT: My paintings and murals are inspired by the endless beauty that exists amidst the chaos of modern times. To exemplify this spectrum, I utilize a mixture of collage, abstraction and figurative objects. It is also important that my work explores the many facets of society as we do not inhabit a monolithic universe. Aside from these juxtapositions, introspection is a factor as well. The exercise of ingesting and processing information is part and parcel of my creative practice. Portraiture can be used multifariously, details included or omitted to push the narrative we seek. My portraits are a history lesson. An array of musicians, authors, scholars, artists and athletes of the highest character and accomplishment. These individuals provide endless motivation, personally and creatively. My objective is to create pieces that stimulate, entertain, inform, and engage. I oppose racism, xenophobia, sexism and any form of oppression/hatred/ignorance. I firmly stand with those on the side of righteousness and progress.
