Jennie Maydew
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Bushwick

ARTIST STATEMENT: Jennie Maydew is an artist and educator in Queens, New York. She creates wearable sculptures that evoke the itinerancy of home. Her interest in the portability of vessels suggests a desire to blend the body with its proximal environment. Using textiles to explore dichotomous relationships, JM elicits quotidian preciousness. She explores a curiosity about the conversation between the objects we cherish fondly and the objects so ubiquitous they elude distinction. Jennie Maydew holds a BFA in Textiles and Art Education and was awarded the Windgate Fellowship in 2016 as an emerging craft artist. She is currently a youth and adult educator in Brooklyn.
