Jorge Luis Rodriguez
New York, NY
Website: http://
Neighborhood: Cobble Hill

ARTIST STATEMENT: My artwork is inspired greatly by Nature, Astronomy, History and further informed by extensive travel and opportunities to live and work in a variety of neighborhoods in NYC and abroad. I am equally inspired by my childhood experiences in Puerto Rico, notably, referencing the flora and fauna in many of my projects. These experiences provide a rich palette that I draw upon in the creative process. While I have concentrated on sculpture, I am adept and well versed in a wide range of techniques used in the production of art. I have developed an expansive visual vocabulary and expertise that allows me to accomplish multidisciplinary artworks. I incorporate significant events, notable inventions and concepts acquired from in depth research and documentation of the art, architecture, and history of diverse cultures which provides meaningful inspiration for my art and collaborative projects. I have enjoyed designing public works for temporary and permanent installations. During the implementation and construction period of proposed site specific public works, I consider it essential to establish a dialogue with the community from the onset to understand shared challenges, preoccupations, desires and suggestions. By addressing these concerns, each installation has its unique focus and significance that is harmonious with their surroundings. I have designed and installed public art works in schools, parks and open spaces that facilitate meaningful interaction between my designs and the immediate as well as visiting public. Since 1976. I continue to exhibit in solo, group and multi media exhibitions nationally and internationally. In addition to my first monumental commissioned work by Percent for Art in 1985 ("Growth"), my work is included in the permanent collections of museums as well as government and cultural institutions.
