Neighborhood: Crown Heights

ARTIST STATEMENT: The sculptures I create are bodily and playful, but carry an underlying association with pain and dissection. Video allows me to activate my sculptures. Through performance I document a physical relationship with the work that I make; each video illustrates dual feelings of sexuality and asexuality. Because of this duality I aim to create objects and characters that contain a fluidity or neutrality of gender, probing both feelings of sensuality and discomfort. It is in the tension between sensuality and discomfort where I aim to break open a psychological space – a space capable of revealing a body identity and human condition that accepts humility and power simultaneously.
