ARTIST STATEMENT: We’re told so often by the world that our joy truly means nothing. The importance, and purpose of our lives, in the eyes of our society, is to stay in the confines of this tight knit box that was fabricated for us and to do as we are told. As a result anyone who steps outside of this space, is subject to criticism, which has lead people to fear expressing their most natural selves, and in many cases, are no longer familiar with who that is to begin with. Because of this I have chosen to focus my work on the encouragement of individuals to release themselves of this weight we consider normality. In doing so, I hope to influence those viewing my work to challenge themselves to do the same, and to gain acceptance and respect for the differences among individuals. By creating an environment that is intimate, filled with music and conversation between myself and the model, I communicate an insurance that they are in a safe space in which they can freely express themselves, in order for me to capture their unique personality to the best of my ability.
