ARTIST STATEMENT: Encompassing photography and sculpture my work seeks to create a displacement of the commonplace, to wrest the familiar in order to perceive things anew in the service of broader themes. I aim to transform everyday objects (such as furniture, tools, mirrors, flowers, etc.) into a palpable and tactile device to address issues simultaneously personal and political. A pervading sense of loss and referrals to mortality and the limits of memory coincide with gestures alluding to the dangers of climate change, the consequences of ignorance, and the tempestuous state of our current socio-political landscape. This collection of gestures serves as a reminder to the viewer of the larger realities at work behind and beyond the mundane source of these objects and demands a certain diligence towards an awareness of ourselves, our environment, and our actions within it.
