ARTIST STATEMENT: Thomas's practice seeks to combine the imagery of humans with the natural element of wood. It's transfiguration through burning, and physically adding depth to its surface teeters the line between sculpture and painting. Channeling a dream like aesthetic, Thomas uses washes of color, stylized hard lines, and intimate close ups.
Her work primarily features Black people. This way, she documents the transformation of a community and the complexity of their stories. Like dreams, they are ever changing, moving things.
