ARTIST STATEMENT: The objects we carry through our lives fascinate me, and I aim to better understand why and how we give materials meaning. I create abstract sculptures and paintings of significant objects from packaging, cardboard, and wrappers - materials that are considered disposable, yet play a vital role in contemporary life. Through creating art out of what is considered garbage I aim to highlight the often arbitrary process through which objects acquire meaning. Working with these materials emphasizes the role art plays in the system of the significant object, and the multitude of ways art transforms the ordinary into something precious.
