Yael Caffrey
Brooklyn, NY

Genre:Figurative;

ARTIST STATEMENT: The figurative image is one of the common themes in my work. Enlarging, breaking down and reassembling images with a clear goal of provoking both discomfort and admiration in the piece itself, and by extension, within its viewer. In an area often shunned in the pursuit of the aesthetic I have found interest in researching distorted appearance. With my work I try to perform a kind of pseudo-scientific medical procedure, creating images that offer an alternative existence to the physical form that we know, and ultimately examine the tension between the viewers tolerance for the abnormal and their desire for the aesthetic.
