Jason Urban
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Clinton Hill

ARTIST STATEMENT:
JULMstudios is a collaboration between Jason Urban & Leslie Mutchler. Working in Brooklyn, their practice is project-based and research-intensive. Most recently they have employed an art practice of pseudo-bibliology through the study of books, printing & publishing. Their projects investigate the evolving meaning of printed matter and the "sacred spaces" it occupies, always aware of the increasingly common shift from analog to digital technologies in our day to day. While printmakers by training, Urban and Mutchler define print expansively. Rather than specialize in one particular technique or process, they consciously utilize an interdisciplinary approach. Projects focus less on a particular object or image but instead ask the viewer to contemplate the whole of the installation, the sum of all parts, and even the space in between. Photographs, video, sculptural objects and printed matter serve as loose facsimiles for research, experience and exploration. instagram: @JULMstudios
