Rebecca Major
New York, NY
Neighborhood: Greenpoint

ARTIST STATEMENT: I’m a mixed-media artist investigating notions of identity, the body, and nature. In my current works on paper series titled Amorphous, I explore the possibilities of abstraction through drawings, prints, and sculptures. Amorphous explores the macro-to-micro relations of the body and forms found in nature, evoking the visceral and the biological. One of the sources for my investigations are illustrated diagrams from antiquated medical textbooks. While those visual didactic models make claim to portent definitive knowledge, my images create a counter narrative, by offering alternate possibilities through newly imagined mysterious spaces.
