ARTIST STATEMENT: The idea of connectedness inspires my painting. I am fascinated by our state of being human, how resilient and strong we are and also how vulnerable. I am interested in the complexity of interior experience.
I work mostly in oil. With transparent washes and gestural marks, I aim to depict accidental fragility and a sense of randomness - between the artificial and the real, transparency and opacity, depth and surface, and between human beings and their environment and each other - blurring or dissolving the concreteness of forms. Things are happening elsewhere, or are experienced peripherally.
I am interested in how our environment affects our interior experience and vice versa. I am interested in how previous actions influence future ones or, as in a Rorschach Test, how the left side affects the right and vice versa.
I represent the human form visually, while at the same time, I consider it an energy-center and a mind-state of possibility. The figure is a source of subjective and interior experience. The subjects are not always fully present.
