ARTIST STATEMENT:

I look at walls and from the experience of just looking and experiencing a wall for hours, I begin to envision ambiguity and the richness of surface textures of the wall. My work is about walls, as well as other objects and fragments in day to day life that partner with environmental lights and affect one's personal psychology.

Each wall has its own history, its own time, its own light, and dust. I am interested in creating this portrait of moving time that is ethereal and can not be frozen by one photograph. But my focus is limited to the space of the walls and the internal psychological spaces that embrace me and others in our everyday lives.

My goal is to take everyday structures that appear whole or superficial in certain perspectives and times, and to transform them into poetic moments. I take moments in spaces and shatter the image to have new pathways. The materials I use-printed photos, spray paint, clear fused glass, and shaped aluminum panels-all bring broken fragments and objects of everyday life into a fluid existence.

I begin with photographing the wall, and then push the image into a multi-medium project that reflects my experiences of the phenomenal world. Photography is the main medium in which I add various textures to enhance the emotional connection the viewers may experience when seeing my work.

The scale of my work is relatively small. By limiting the scale, I blur the boundary between reality and illusion, as well as the physical distances and spatial relationships. My work builds the viewer a doorway to the emotional inner space of psychology. My desire is to trigger the profound human experience, rather than an invitation for ignoring the physical space that the viewer in.
