Brian Mukerjee
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Bushwick

ARTIST STATEMENT: I’m a painter of nature. My subject is the cycle of life, death, decay and regeneration, the temporal nature of being. Other themes run through the work. What is artificial and what is authentic? By extension, what is real and what is illusion? I investigate the complicated relationships between man, nature and art. The backdrop of my current work is the Sonoran Desert. That spiky, venomous and yet astonishingly beautiful landscape resonates for me. It is mythic in reputation and fantastical to experience. The extreme conditions for survival in that environment underscore life’s impermanence.
