Like an Ocean gyre, a vortex of artifacts of a consumption based contemporary society become
ensnarled with driftwood, dead coral, and seaweed creating a grotesques amalgamation of disparate
materials which remarkably can still harbor life.
I employ traditional lace making to render protective structures laced from thread and rope; as well as unconventional embroidery to create works on paper representing interior spaces and the outdoor paths leading to those spaces.
I am a multidisciplinary artist. I create site specific installations, sculptures, abstract paintings
and performance. I was born and grew up in Japan, moved to New York in 2000. Currently I work
in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
