With each image, we share in this experience of (re)discovery.
Colorful painterly images of neighborhoods around Brooklyn and nearby places celebrating the
architecture and communities in the New York area. Inspired by the energy and stories of the
people I meet every day and the places I visit.
I am obsessive compulsive and draw constantly: on rolodex cards, 5 x 8 plain index cards (folded in
half), and pocket sized scraps of paper; this impulse has led to an entire body of art exploring my
daily experience in the workplace.
Joy Makon paints representational watercolors that are based on observations of daily life. Landscapes and seascapes, often with figures incorporated into the scene, come from Brooklyn and from travelling in the US and abroad.
Having engaged subjects as diverse as political icons, natural and animal elements and human portrait my work reproduces emotionally charged pictorial language, arranging them into new conceptually layered pieces.
