The Contortions series has its roots in process in an investigation of what paint can do physically.
After multiple layers of acrylics are methodically applied to a support, these slabs are pulled up,
sliced, carved, and/or peeled.
Drawing on the tradition of landscape painting and the sublime, I work toward a new kind of
landscape for the Anthropocene era, blurring the boundary between the organic and the
mechanical, with obsessively complex sculptures and paintings.
I am a sculptor who has worked in a number of mediums. Recently I have spanned the art and design worlds. Most of what I make is made from upholstery springs and bent poplar plywood, along with steel and other metals.
