In this series of drawings I reference the body directly by using hair as the impetus for my forms. I
play with color, form and abstraction while exploring the hairs subjective properties as a cheap
commodity and personal signifier.
Ilana H-B is an interdisciplinary artist born in Brooklyn, NY. She received a BA in Art at Yale, and
is a 2016 MFA at Columbia University. She creates work that explores relationships between
surface, humor, failure, & individuation.
Rematriating from Brooklyn to Puerto Rico, withstanding Hurricane Maria and the resulting
darkness, I paint our ancestors as bio-luminescent beings underwater and my people as fireflies,
metaphors for sustainability and liberation.

and continues to be through chronicling a strong, noble and vibrant people living in the present for
others to know in the future.
I am a Filipina-Canadian multi-disciplinary artist interested in investigating relationships between
material impermanence and trans-cultural memory. I work in sculpture, installation, performance
and 2D works.
I am very geometrical with my approach. I love black and white because it is a direct display of the
design. No distractions what so ever. However, I also like a simple pop of color at certain moments
which can create emotion.
All of my artwork begins with a digital photograph, my images are layered, pasted and pushed
beyond their recognizable photographic sources to form new compositions. I enjoy a freestyle
