My work is derived from the historical precedent of a sampler, using stitches to record the forms,
patterns and textures of my experiences of different places. This recording of memories is a tactile
sense of space.
My work focus on the mechanisms and techniques of representation that build reality, through a
critical process of questioning and challenging hegemonic narratives and the forms by which they
Inspired by themes of freedom, identity, memory, and truth, my work spans a spectrum from
documenting and commenting on observed scenes and settings to abstract, surreal expressions in
a range of visual media and written word.
I use fabric as a sculptural material because it is linked to clothing – our second skin. I sew and
stuff fabric forms to create sculptures that evoke softness. Video allows me to activate my
Beach Lovers is a collection of intimate moments between couples I’ve observed at the beach. My
intention is to capture love and sensuality in public, observing the shift in behavior from NYC
streets to Rockaway, Coney and Fort Tilden.
