I specialize in painting portraits of individuals and families in both traditional and creative styles. My personal artwork weaves portraits with memories of my past, portraying my perception of family history.
In my recent work, I construct tableaux specifically for the camera, staging dead birds and flowers that I collect in the urban areas and parks near my home, to create new forms--referencing J. J. Audubon and Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley.
In my work I am exploring traditional arts, and themes as they relate to and fit in with today's
digital, ultra-connected society. My most recent work takes this a step further and relates these
themes to one's sense of self.
Elise Tak's work is a representation of a representation, THE symbol of fiction: Cinema!†Tak
meticulously chronicles the lives and careers of 10 world-famous movie actors. All are pure fiction.
The artist LIES!
My artworks combine a keen sense of color with technology, embracing the pastiche of
Postmodernism and the dreaminess of Romanticism, this makes my series stand out as extremely
pleasing and harmonious while being thought provoking.
My work explores the relationships between what we see and the interior, non-visible experiences
we feel. Transformation is a central theme in my work - transformation across mediums and from
2D to spatial concerns.
I am a video artist working with appropriated and representational imagery to navigate a world that has been digitized, categorized and full of content that is easily available but without context or history.
