Using a personally-developed style of applying the paint to the canvas, Stoltzfus slowly and
intuitively builds richly-textured images that suggest nighttime landscapes in which light and dark
engage in a compelling relationship.
Born in a country of over fifty years in an internecine war, I destroy and construct my own
canvases by hand stitching. I then re-skin the works with layers of metallic paints. Stitching, like
love making, is a long process.
The Knots and Flora series (Drawings and Paintings), are meditations on time perception, the
layering of experience, obstruction, nostalgia, turmoil, and the charting of a personal chance

Awareness of the vibrational nature of the universe informs every aspect of my work: gilded paintings with metal leaf, pigments, crystals and mother-of-pearl or digital prints of painted gouache mandalas.
