I am a Colombian artist and writer who works in video, text, sound, and installation. My work
seeks to reconstruct, recuperate, question, and re-articulate a series of collective historical
memories in Latin America and the United States.
I am interested in identity, memory and the discomfort of leaving in the post-modern world. With
my work I explore the fine line between reality and fiction and how photography and its inherent
artifice fill the gap.
I work in sculpture and mixed media installations, video and performance. My work manifests
palimpsest form, like memories of texts that have been erased away, a trace left behind, a
reminder that the past existed and still prevails.
I am interested in the relationship between memories and architectural spaces. Memories can be
glamorized and distorted. Especially, when we consider the spaces we think we know, each has
different perspectives in one's mind.
Rebecca Shapass is a multidisciplinary artist based in her native NYC. She works at the
intersection of moving-image, installation, and performance to deconstruct traditional narratives
about femininity and womxnhood.
My graphite-centric drawing, sculpture & hand-drawn animation work elusively investigates
identity & encompasses an obsessive conceptual framework, denoting recollection &
disappearance, memory & forgetfulness, and mark making & erasure
I explore different practices of archiving and photographic processes. I draw from archives and
produce them at the same time: acts of recording, storing, indexing, and redistributing are built
into my work.
I am a steward of objects. I explore the ways in which objects enter and exit our lives. How we care
for them, how we think about them, how we occupy them, and how they occupy us are questions
central to my interests.
